Facebook developed Facebook Lite in 2015 as a breath of fresh air for people with cheap mobile phones and poor mobile connections. It’s an app for everyone, but especially for those living in areas with limited data connectivity. Facebook Lite also saves storage on your phone, and it still works on 2G networks.

It is an app that provides the same functionality as the standard Facebook app, but with less demanding technological requirements. Using Facebook Lite will result in less data consumption and internal phone storage (compared to the standard app). It’s also quicker to download and start-up time, which clocks in at 1.28 MB, compared to the full Facebook app, which is 67 MB and takes longer to download and start-up.

Benefits

The size of Facebook Lite is what distinguishes it from regular Facebook. Its download is less than 10 MB. On my device, it takes up only 2.19 MB of space. Regular Facebook takes up 167 MB of space, which is a substantial reduction.

Facebook Lite doesn’t preload photos the way the standard app does. As a result, scrolling through your Newsfeed will take a slightly longer time, but you’ll use less data. You’ll also see that video will only play when you’re connected to Wi-Fi on the standard app, which isn’t the case with Facebook Lite.

To save even more data, you can visit your Facebook Lite settings and scroll down to the Media and Contacts section. In this section, you can select the picture quality that Facebook Lite uses. Using low-resolution photos can help you save data. The regular Facebook app has a data-saving feature, but it doesn’t save nearly as much as Facebook Lite does.

User Interface

Facebook Lite is a completely new app. The structure is not worse; it’s just different. You still have the same fundamental tabs: News Feed, Personal Messages, Messages, Videos, Notifications, and Settings––you just can’t swipe between them; you must click them.

Using Facebook Lite is a little slower than using the regular version. Based on the way the app is designed, it is clear that Facebook sacrificed some performance to keep it running properly on devices with limited RAM, CPU power, and poor internet connections. Despite this, Facebook Lite is still usable.

Security and Privacy

There is no doubt that Facebook adores your data, and you want to ensure that the company isn’t just freely distributing it. Firstly, you can verify your privacy settings online, but after you have completed that, evaluating what permissions that mobile application has on your device is a smart idea

There is no avoiding the fact that if you don’t like Facebook’s regular permissions, you probably won’t like Facebook Lites either. The best way to avoid permissions is to access Facebook’s mobile website using your favorite Android browser.

Messaging

Facebook Lite used to have its messaging system built into the app, but now you must download and use a separate messaging app, just like the standard Facebook app. Instead of using the regular Messenger, Facebook Lite users are encouraged to use Messenger Lite on Android and iOS. It looks nearly identical to the standard Messenger, but if you feel that Messenger is too bulky, Messenger Lite may be just what you’re looking for.

How Do I Download Facebook Lite?

Facebook Lite is currently available in North America, as well as in parts of Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. The Play Store and App Store listings are visible to everyone, but if you’re not in one of the countries supported, you’ll see a message saying, “This app is incompatible with all of your devices.”

Facebook vs. Facebook Lite: Which Should You Use?

A Facebook Lite app may be a great option for users with limited internet connectivity for users who have a limited amount of space on their phone or who want to save money by using a less resource-intensive app.

There are times when the standard Facebook app might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Particularly if you have an older phone or want to save data. Facebook Lite, on the other hand, may be more attractive.
